Pastoral Counseling
The word pastoral comes from the Latin word 'pastor' which means shepherd. It is the image of a shepherd who cares for the well-being of his sheep. There is protection against danger, bandaging wounds, looking for lost sheep, in short, what is required is good care for the entire flock. When I translate this to Pastoral care, this is:
-
Take care of people
-
Take care of inner wounds
-
Care for those who have gone astray.
During a consultation there is room to read the Bible and pray together. I consider how God views certain topics and involve Him when we look for answers together.
Receiving homework can be part of the guidance. After each session I ask you to write a short reflection for the next consultation, in order to look back at what you have experienced/discovered.
